6 Established IoT startups to look for (June 2016)

Every month, we will post our top list of established startups to look for. We defined established start-up as being a few years old and have raised at least a series A. In fact, there are only 2 companies in this list that raised only a series A (all other raised more rounds) No particular order.

1. Particule (formerly spark.io)

Headquarters: San Francisco,CA

Founded: 2011

Raised 4.2M$ as of 2015

Particule is the leader in Web connected IoT platforms. They build the HW kits and lets you easily write your code for it. They host it and it is accessible through an URL. I've used their product and it is very easy to prototype and get everything up and working. They had a very successful Kickstarter campaign with their Photon Wifi module. Recently launched a 2G/3G no-contract module (Electron module).

2. Arrayent

Headquarters: Redwood city

Founded : 2002

Founding : 27M$ as of Jan 2016

Arrayent focuses on connecting traditional products to the internet such as appliances, lights and many more. They build the module based on existing SoCs and provide the firmware that will run on the targeted product (to connect to their module). They also maintain cloud infrastructure for easy communication.

3. Kontakt.io

Headquarters: Poland

Founded : 2013

Kontakt is trying to dominate the proximity market with their fully integrated HW/FW beacons. They provide a turn-key beacon solution and provide the cloud infrastructure to manage it. They use Nordic chipset. [1]

4. PubNub

Headquarters: San Francisco,CA

Founded: 2010

Raised 40M$ as of Sep 2015

PubNub provides the infrastructure for a Data Stream Network and give access to their API. Their goal is for you to connect all your IoT devices in a highly scalable and reliable fashion. It provides a simple API and supports more than 70 SDKs.

5. Veniam

Headquarters: Mountain View,CA

Founded: 2012

Raised 25M$ as of Feb 2016

Veniam focuses on Internet of Moving Things. Mainly connected car/trucks for logistics. It turns car/buses into Wifi hotspots. Their technology is a mesh-network for moving hot-spots and they provide the full stack (HW,SW and cloud solutions) for deploying and managing.

6. Afero

Headquarters: Los Altos,CA

Founded: 2014

Raised 20M$ as of 2016

Afero provides a complete IoT platform to accelerate creation of connected products. It is based on Bluetooth Smart. They provide embedded security with their module. They also have a version aimed at hobbyist with an Arduino shield.
